Milgard C700 Series Fiberglass Windows in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and Phoenix: What's New, Styles and What to Ask

Milgard C700 Series fiberglass windows now get a black 4SG spacer as standard, dealers report. Styles, what changed and what to ask in Arizona.

Published

Short answer: the Milgard C700 Series (shown on milgard.com as the C700 Fiberglass Series) is the brand's fiberglass window line, and the headline change this fall is at the edge of the glass: dealers report it now comes standard with a black 4SG TPS spacer in place of black foam. For Scottsdale and Paradise Valley homes, that matters because the edge seal is what has to survive decades of hard sun and big day-night temperature swings. What C700 is

Milgard's website lists the line as the C700 Fiberglass Series, alongside its other current series such as Trinsic and Tuscany. Fiberglass frames appeal to a lot of Valley homeowners who want slim, dark frames on desert contemporary and modern homes. Check frame colors and sizes with your dealer, since options change.

Milgard's own launch announcement describes C700 as fiberglass windows and sliding patio doors with clean sightlines and modern frame profiles, SmartTouch® hardware that unlocks and operates with a single motion, and products tested and built to meet ENERGY STAR version 7.0 requirements (Milgard news release).

What's new: 4SG standard on six styles

According to an October 1 post from a Milgard dealer, Milgard now builds C700 windows with a black thermoplastic spacer system called 4SG, standard on:

  • Single-hung
  • Casement
  • Awning
  • Horizontal slider
  • Double vent
  • Picture

4SG replaces the separate spacer bar, primary seal and desiccant with one continuous piece that bonds to the glass and stays flexible, with no foil or corner joints (Lion Windows & Doors, dealer post). The dealer also reports:

  • Black foam spacer is still offered to finish existing projects and for service, at an added cost.
  • The sales order number is now etched on a corner of the glass, not printed on the spacer.
  • Orders already in the system were updated to the new spacer automatically.

We haven't found this announcement on milgard.com yet. Milgard's January 2026 C700 acoustical ratings sheet does list "TP-S" among its non-rigid spacer types (Milgard C700 acoustical ratings).

Why the spacer is a good hook for Phoenix-area homes

Milgard's catalog says warm-edge spacers "help to lower conductivity, improve argon gas retention, and increase condensation resistance" (Milgard C700 catalog). In the Valley, the argon and seal part is the one that counts: a failed seal means fogged glass and lost insulation, covered in our foggy double-pane windows guide. The dealer post says the flexible 4SG edge handles hot afternoons and cool nights better. That's a dealer claim; we found no Phoenix-specific test data. The look helps too: a black spacer line disappears against a black fiberglass frame.

Why spacer color matters on dark frames: a black spacer line (left) disappears into a black fiberglass frame, while a silver one (right) reads as a thin bright line. Illustrative image.

Energy numbers barely move with the spacer. Milgard hasn't published a C700 comparison with TPS; on the sister C650 fiberglass line, its 2023 thermal chart shows a 0.01 or smaller U-factor difference between spacer types (Milgard C650 thermal chart). Glass choice matters more: see best windows for Arizona heat and our Low-E glass comparison.

Before you order C700 windows

  • Glass package. Ask for the NFRC U-factor and SHGC on every window in the quote.
  • Spacer. Confirm the quote shows the standard 4SG spacer.
  • Retrofit or full frame. See retrofit vs. full-frame replacement.
  • HOA and permits. Frame color changes often need design review; see our HOA rules hub and permit guide.
  • Warranty. Ask the dealer for Milgard's current written warranty for the exact product rather than relying on a summary.

Our take

C700 with the standard 4SG spacer is a strong option to put on the list for a Scottsdale or Paradise Valley window project, especially with dark frames. Compare it on glass performance, style, lead time and the quality of the install. Fill out the short form below and get matched with a participating independent dealer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Milgard C700 series?

C700 is Milgard's fiberglass window line, shown on milgard.com as the C700 Fiberglass Series. It comes in common styles such as single-hung, casement, awning, horizontal slider, double vent and picture windows.

What changed on Milgard C700 windows in 2026?

A Milgard dealer reported on October 1 that C700 windows now come standard with a black thermoplastic (TPS) spacer system called 4SG, replacing black foam, and that the order number is now etched on a corner of the glass. We haven't seen the announcement on milgard.com yet, so confirm it on your quote.

Do I pay more for the new 4SG spacer?

Dealers describe 4SG as the new standard, which means it's included rather than an upgrade. The old black foam spacer is the one that now carries an added cost. Your dealer's quote is the final word.

Are fiberglass windows a good choice for Arizona heat?

They're one of the materials worth considering, alongside vinyl and aluminum, especially if you want a dark frame. The glass package matters most for heat, so compare NFRC U-factor and solar heat gain numbers on your actual quote rather than the frame material alone.

Do I need HOA approval for new C700 windows?

In many Scottsdale and Paradise Valley communities, yes, especially if the frame color or grid pattern changes. Check your HOA's design guidelines before you order; our HOA rules hub covers several communities.
